It Is Finished - Cross

“IT IS FINISHED” (JOHN 19:30)

“When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30 KJV)

———————————————–

According to the Seventh Day Adventist Gnostic doctrine, after His sacrifice Jesus Christ waited until 1844 to then join God the Father and intercede for our sins. At that point God began an “Investigative Judgment” process where the books were opened. Regardless of your faith in Him and acceptance of His sacrifice on the cross, He then started an investigation to make sure that you repented from the accusations against you, confessing every single one of them by name; and also if you kept the 10 Commandments – most especially the 4th and most important one – to determine if you are worthy of receiving the “saved” stamp.

But why would an All-Knowing God intercede for our sins and then wait more than 1800 years to investigate Himself?

Let’s see what the Bible says about Jesus interceding work in the first place:

  • Hebrews 9:11-12 NKJV: “But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.”
  • Revelations 3:21 NIV 1984: “ To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.”
  • Hebrews 9:24 NKJV: “For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us…”
  • Hebrews 9:26-28 NKJV: “… but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself.  And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.”
  • Hebrews 10:11-13 NKJV: “And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.”
  • John 14:28 NIV 1984: “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.”

Hebrews 9:11-12 and Hebrews 10: 11-13 states that Christ entered the Most Holy Place after He had offered Himself as sacrifice for sins, and sat down at the right hand of God. It is very important to notice that it speaks in past tense. Obviously, the phrase “Investigative Judgment” is not biblical. The SDA needed a way to hammer this doctrine into their teachings, they needed a term that could perfectly suit their own purposes; and what better term than the “Investigative Judgment”? With this new tool in hand they decided to force their Masonic Jesus to wait in some kind of limbo until 1844 when he was finally able to enter the Most Holly place of Hebrews 9:11-12.

Unfortunately this Gnostic teaching destroys completely the meaning of Jesus overwhelming sacrifice done at the cross, placing our sins on a “Pending Status” until its fulfillment in 1844. Hebrews 9:26 is very clear when it says that sin was put away (settled) at the cross. “…but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.” (Hebrews 9:26 KJV)

If we go by the 1844 SDA Gnostic doctrine, then John 19:30 should have said something like “When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, ‘it is pending’ until 1844, and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.” (John 19:30 According to the SDA doctrine).
